Privacy Policy
Effective date: 6 October 2026
The app holds no internet permission — it physically cannot send anything anywhere. Check for yourself: “Internet” is absent from its permission list.
In short
Shajara does not collect, transmit or store your data anywhere except on your own phone. The app holds no internet permission — it is technically incapable of sending anything anywhere.
You can verify this yourself: android.permission.INTERNET does not appear in the app's permission list.
What the app handles
Everything below is entered by you and stays on the device:
- names, dates and places of birth, marriage and death of relatives;
- photographs, video clips and voice recordings you attach;
- biographies and family stories;
- your settings: language, appearance, generation names, reminder options.
Data lives in the app's private directory on the device. Other apps cannot reach it.
What the app does not do
- no accounts, no sign-up;
- no servers — the app has none;
- no advertising;
- no analytics, telemetry or tracking of any kind;
- no device or advertising identifiers;
- no location access.
Permissions and why they exist
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) | To record a relative telling a family story and attach it to their profile. Recording starts only when you press "Record voice" and is saved on the device. |
| Camera and photo access | To add a portrait or family photo. Selection goes through the system picker; the app receives only the file you chose. |
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) | Birthday reminders, composed on the device itself. Off by default. |
Start after reboot (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) | To restore scheduled reminders after the phone restarts. |
All permissions are optional. Decline any of them and the matching feature simply does not run; the rest of the app keeps working.
When data leaves the device
Only when you choose, and only where you send it:
- PDF export (poster, Dynasty sheet, family book) — you pick the destination through the system share sheet.
.shajarafile — a backup meant for relatives. It contains the data you entered together with the embedded photographs.
Once you have handed a file to a messenger, mail client or cloud service, that service's terms apply to it, not this policy.
Deleting data
- Individual people, photos, recordings and stories are deleted in the app.
- Settings → Data → Erase all data wipes the whole tree and its attachments.
- Uninstalling the app removes all of its data with it.
Because we hold no data, there is nobody to send a deletion request to — it all happens on your device.
Web version (shajara.isokov.uz)
Shajara also runs in the browser, and it works the same way as the app:
- the tree, photos and settings are kept in your browser's database (IndexedDB) on this device and are never sent to a server;
- there is no sign-up, no ads, no analytics and no cookies;
- voice and video are not recorded or stored in the web version yet;
- like any website, the host sees the request's IP address and technical details — to deliver the page, not to track you.
Clearing the browser's data or using a private window deletes the tree. Save a .shajara file regularly (Export & share → Backup): it opens in another browser and in the Android app.
Ads on isokov.uz/shajara
The pages of isokov.uz/shajara (the app's description and help) show Google AdSense ads. The Android app itself and the web version at shajara.isokov.uz have no ads, and no ad scripts are loaded there.
- Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
- How Google uses data on partner sites: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
- You can turn off personalised ads in Google's Ad Settings, and ads from other companies at aboutads.info.
Visitors from the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are first asked by Google for consent to cookies.
Children
The app is not directed at children and does not collect data about them. A family tree may of course contain details of younger family members; you enter those yourself and keep them on your own device.
Changes
If the app ever starts doing something not described here, this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the effective date will change.
